Many Americans spend a great deal of time researching numerous consumer products before purchasing them. We look at quality, price, longevity, resale value and the reputation of the company that has produced the product. With the rising cost of health care and the diversity of health plans and coverages, it has become increasingly imperative that consumers start applying the same research techniques that are used in other products to the the health care industry. After all, our health is not a disposable good but one with immeasurable value.
Consumers should be even more involved in their care when it comes to medicine and topics that are at the heart of nationwide controversy like childhood vaccinations. Many young families have trusted the mandates to have their children vaccinated according to the recommended schedules only to have their children suffer from serious side effects and sometimes death. Even though the majority of children have little to no adverse reactions, the ones who have suffered from the vaccinations are at the core of the controversy.
The responsibility lies in the hands of many groups including the consumer. Education is the key to knowing if vaccinations are right for your family. The decision not to vaccinate your child should be carefully examined after gathering all the information. Research can be done online, at the library, by reading recent studies that have been done or most of all by talking to a trusted physician. Consumers should be ready to walk into a doctor's visit with questions, concerns and an open mind regarding their child's care. Following is a list of potential questions that can be asked of the health care team.
1. Are harmful agents like mercury and thimerasol still used in vaccines today?
2. Does my child have to receive vaccines according to the schedule or can I choose?
3. Can I reject some vaccines and choose to do others?
4. What are the chances of my child having a serious or fatal side effect?
5. How quickly would I see one of the serious side effects and can my child be treated quickly enough to not suffer long term effects?
6. In my state that I live, can my children still go to school without these vaccines?
It is not only up to the consumer to educate themselves but also the health care providers like doctors and nurses who should be up to date on the current statistics, studies being done and any new changes that have taken place in the vaccine formulations. Even though there are many physicians who are opposed to vaccines, studies have shown that most physicians are in support of them and will encourage parents to have their children vaccinated. The physicians and nurses on either side must be able to provide current and accurate information in order to help consumers make informed decisions. There are risks on both sides of this issue and it is up to consumers and health professionals to work together to protect individual children as well as society.

Great to have a list of questions to bring to the doctor. We truly do have to be well informed today about vaccines especially with all the controversy going on.
ReplyDeleteIn Texas, Can we choose the schedule at which our children are vaccinated?
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to do genetic testing to know whether or not our child might be at risk of one of these more harmful side effects? and if so, how costly would those tests be?
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting all of this wonderful knowledge and links about vaccines. We have given our daughter almost all of the recommended vaccines up to date, at 12 months. I do worry about a couple of her friends that we play with, who are not receiving most vaccines. I would hate to put any child at risk for a disease or harmful side effects. I hope parents stay informed and educate themselves on this important informtion.
ReplyDeleteThe questions to ask your Dr. and health team are great..... I know with the rise of autism parents have a right to be educated and concerned. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeletegood information, thanks.
ReplyDeleteBoth of my kids are up to date on their immunizations. We did hold off for a couple of years with the Hep. A one though. I didn't know a lot about it and I wanted to research it first. I decided to get it because so many cases come from food contact in restaurants and we eat out quite often. I think it is the parent's responsibility to education themselves about vaccines and not just do what the doctor tells them. Great Blog!
ReplyDeleteAs of now, there is research being done to see if genetic testing can determine those children who would be harmed by a particular vaccine. It is looking promising but it still has a ways to go before being completed. For now, we as consumers have to educate ourselves on any new updates.
ReplyDeleteIrrespective of receiving daily oral or future injectable depot therapies, these require health care visits for medication and monitoring of safety and response. If patients are treated early enough, before a lot of immune system damage has occurred, life expectancy is close to normal, as long as they remain on successful treatment. However, when patients stop therapy, virus rebounds to high levels in most patients, sometimes associated with severe illness because i have gone through this and even an increased risk of death. The aim of “cure”is ongoing but i still do believe my government made millions of ARV drugs instead of finding a cure. for ongoing therapy and monitoring. ARV alone cannot cure HIV as among the cells that are infected are very long-living CD4 memory cells and possibly other cells that act as long-term reservoirs. HIV can hide in these cells without being detected by the body’s immune system. Therefore even when ART completely blocks subsequent rounds of infection of cells, reservoirs that have been infected before therapy initiation persist and from these reservoirs HIV rebounds if therapy is stopped. “Cure” could either mean an eradication cure, which means to completely rid the body of reservoir virus or a functional HIV cure, where HIV may remain in reservoir cells but rebound to high levels is prevented after therapy interruption.Dr Itua Herbal Medicine makes me believes there is a hope for people suffering from,Parkinson's disease,Schizophrenia,Lung Cancer,Breast Cancer,Colo-Rectal Cancer,Blood Cancer,Prostate Cancer, siva.Fatal Familial Insomnia Factor V Leiden Mutation ,Epilepsy Dupuytren's disease,Desmoplastic small-round-cell tumor Diabetes ,Coeliac disease,Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease,Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy, Ataxia,Arthritis,Amyotrophic Lateral Scoliosis,Fibromyalgia,Fluoroquinolone Toxicity
