Concerns over a link between vaccines and autism have become commonplace among some members of the public and within the media itself.
On February 12th, 2009, CNN's Campbell Brown reported on the immunization controversy indicating that the only cause for concern is the one posed by parents opting out of vaccine programs. In another news, Newsweek's Sharon Begley wrote an article entitled "Anatomy of a Scare." In this article she states that the entire controversy was built on a house of cards that has now been demolished. Yet in another media coverage, CBS news reported on a special courts ruling in three cases that showed no link between the MMR vaccine and autism. Following is a video of this news coverage:

How many times has the media fed us a load of crock? How many times has the government covered up things? Can we really trust them to have our best interest at heart?
ReplyDeleteThe news relies on ratings for subject material..and if you haven't noticed already every news report involves some sort of "breaking news" about how you're in danger from something. Most of it is pure speculation and hysteria. I believe the best way to inform people is by word of mouth.
ReplyDeleteThe media isn't always the best source of research based information...... they tend to put their own sensationalism in to it to get mroe viewers!

ReplyDeleteThe media doesn't always mention the positive side of vaccinations...just when someone is dead due to one or if there is a breakthrough. Encouraging parents to vaccinate their infants is what the media should try to do sometimes.
ReplyDeleteIf anything was a potential threat to your child, wouldn't you want the media to cover the story? I do believe that they should do a better job covering all sides, but when dealing with the media you have to always consider the source. Some reporters have a definite agenda and their job is to convince you to think as they do. Some media outlets take more of a priority in letting the public making up their own mind.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the media has a duty to inform the public about anything we might find important. I don't believe that the connection between Autism and Vaccines unwarranted. Every drug out today has side effects and I beleive that parents should not be forced, but have a choice to have their children vaccinated. Parents as well as doctors should be well informed about the possiblilty of risk in each individual before either consent to these requriements.
ReplyDeleteNews nowadays is not fact, it's entertainment. As audience, we need to know that what we see on TV or read on newspapers is not to be completely trusted. Reports like this should raise doubt, and we, being responsible parents, should seek to get to the bottom of truth the best we can.
ReplyDeleteJust keep in mind, it's the goal of all kinds of media to create panic in the public, because that means sales to them. So a lot of reports are way exaggerated.
I don't see any real connection between Autism and vaccines. There are plenty of other things that could be causing Autism. More research is needed.
ReplyDeleteIrrespective of receiving daily oral or future injectable depot therapies, these require health care visits for medication and monitoring of safety and response. If patients are treated early enough, before a lot of immune system damage has occurred, life expectancy is close to normal, as long as they remain on successful treatment. However, when patients stop therapy, virus rebounds to high levels in most patients, sometimes associated with severe illness because i have gone through this and even an increased risk of death. The aim of “cure”is ongoing but i still do believe my government made millions of ARV drugs instead of finding a cure. for ongoing therapy and monitoring. ARV alone cannot cure HIV as among the cells that are infected are very long-living CD4 memory cells and possibly other cells that act as long-term reservoirs. HIV can hide in these cells without being detected by the body’s immune system.
